25% of TNB consumers to pay 1% levy from Dec 1

PUTRAJAYA: An estimated 25% of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) consumers in Peninsular Malaysia will pay a levy of 1% out of their total electricity bills starting Dec 1.

This will follow the launch of the Government's Feed-in Tariff (FiT) system for the development of renewable energy next month.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin said Tuesday that electricity consumers will contribute 1% of their total electricity tariff bills issued by TNB to the Renewable Energy Fund if they use more than 300kWh of electricity per month.

"Nonetheless, 75% of TNB's customers who consume less than 300kWh per month will be exempted from contributing to this fund," Chin told a press conference here.

The FiT system is a funding mechanism under the Renewable Energy Act (REA) 2011 and Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Act 2011 designed to encourage the development of renewable energy via cost-sharing among electricity consumers.

It was originally set to be launched in September but was postponed to wait for legal mechanisms under the REA to be in place. [thestar]

Akibatnya para pelajar terpaksa tinggal di surau, berkongsi bilik dan di bilik sementara, mungkin untuk beberapa bulan akan datang.

Apa sudah jadi da, inilah akibatnya akibat mempertahankan peristiwa Bukit Kepong di Johor, pelajar-pelajar Melayu yang belajar di Johor terabai, teraniaya, tertindas, tertipu bukan oleh bangsa lain, tapi oleh bangsa Melayu sendiri.

Parents paid for rooms, but UiTM hostel still being built
SEGAMAT: Parents of second semester students at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) here are disappointed with the university’s management for failing to provide proper accommodation to their children.

More than 120 students who made advance payments of RM690 each for special rooms were shocked to find that the hostel building was still under construction.

Factory worker Mohd Hisham, 55, said he was disappointed with the university for placing his child and the other students at the surau, common rooms and other spare rooms.

“I feel cheated. The university had promised that the hostel would be ready by the time the semester begins. “The current structure of the hostel is not even a completed building. Unfortunately, I think the students are going to be forced to stay at temporary living areas for months.”

Another parent, Mariana Alias, 50, said she was worried about her daughter as the current arrangement was not conducive for studying. “This is the main reason why I paid for the rooms. I am really annoyed and worried that my daughter’s education will be affected due to this,” she said, adding that the university should have at least informed parents earlier so that they could source for alternative accommodation. “Now, we are left in a predicament.”

A representative from the university said the project was being handled by an outside contractor, “The area where the rooms are supposed to be built on is outside the campus and the developer has promised to complete it by the end of the week,” he said, adding that the university would ensure that the rooms were safe before allowing the students to stay there.

A Rolls Royce for anyone who finds a man resembling Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Find a man resembling Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and you can drive home a vintage Rolls Royce with RM10,000 cash in hand.

That is the offer made by Kedah Kita chief Zamil Ibrahim to anyone who can find a person who looks like Opposition leader Anwar.

“The Rolls Royce (Silver 111, 6700cc) is mine, and the cash offer is made by someone who wants to remain anonymous.

“We are doing this to put an end to the prolonged saga following Anwar's claim that even if people say that the man in a sex video may look like him, it is not his tummy,'' he said.

Datuk T, comprising businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, and former Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim had, on March 21, revealed the existence of a video showing a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman.

Anwar had lodged a police report claiming that he was not the man in the video and that it was part of a political conspiracy to topple him.

Zamil believes his offer can help throw light on the matter.

“The public are confused. I believe Anwar can finally clear his good name if we can help him find a man who looks like him, walk like him, and even smile like him,'' Zamil said.

Zamil also added that he would invite Eskay, Kita president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim and senator Ezam Moh Noor to sit in a panel to identify Anwar look-a-alike.

“The three of them were very close to Anwar. They can tell who looks exactly like Anwar,'' he said.
